Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Listened to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galxy on Radio 4 on Tuesday – absolutely brilliant. Then made the mistake of looking at some pictures of the cast – I still can’t believe Trillian is actually that old.

Anyway, get over to the Radio 4 website and listen to it again!

Its on Tuesdays 6.30pm, repeated Thursdays 11.00pm.

Oh, and they are currently offering 5.1 surround sound Real Player and Windows Media Player versions, Cool!

  1. Enjoyed bits of it, mostly Marvin, but I had some real problems with some of the casting. The Guide’s tendency to an occasional transatlantic drawl was unfirtunate, and Slartibartfast was too superior, as opposed to affable and absent-minded.

There were problems with the direction, too. Way too much incidental music during non-Guide sections, and WAY too much adding in of spurious bits of extra jokey dialogue during guide narrations (notably during the supernova bomb explanatory history).

Still enjoyed it, though, and looking forward to the next phases.

  2. Well, I have the misfortune of never having listened to the previous phases (although I am tempted by the above purchases) and it just brought back so many brilliant memories of reading the books that I could probably overlook any and all blemishes.

  3. I can see that would be the case. You simply _must_ listen to the original serieseses(es). That said, I almost think the best version is the double album which was released, followed by an album of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. I found them on cassette many years later, but don’t know if they are available on CD.
